Hello to all,
We are celebrating our 10th edition of “The Harvesting Revolution”, and the whole team would like to thank you. As with every edition, our goal is to inform you about the latest great advances in energy harvesting.
The months following the pandemic have had a great impact on the reflection around global warming, on the solutions that can slow it down but especially to bring energy in a more sustainable way.
We let you discover these latest findings below and wish you a good reading,
Dracula Team
📚 GREAT READS
Potential of subdermal solar energy harvesting for medical device applications based on worldwide meteorological data: Active electronic implants are increasingly used for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes. Therapeutic devices include, e.g., cardiac pacemakers, cochlear, or retinal implants. Examples for diagnostic devices are implantable cardiac loop recorders or continuous glu- cose-monitoring systems. Most devices rely on an internal battery with a limited lifetime. The most common active electronic implant is the cardiac pacemaker with more than one million implantations per year. Read more…
Solar Evaporation-Based Energy Harvesting Using a Leaf-Inspired Energy-Harvesting Foam: Sustainable and green energy techniques are in high demand as new energy sources. Over the decades, streaming potential/current has attracted attention as a hydrovoltaic energy technology. However, state-of-the-art technologies have bottlenecks in their practical application. Here, we propose a conductive polymer foam, called leaf-inspired energy-harvesting foam (LIEHF), containing polydimethylsiloxane with macro-and microporous structures homogeneously mixed with conductive carbon materials. Multifunctional Coaxial Energy Fiber toward Energy Harvesting, Storage, and Utilization: Fibrous energy−autonomy electronics are highly
desired for wearable soft electronics, human−machine interfaces,
and the Internet of Things. How to effectively integrate various
functional energy fibers into them and realize versatile applications is
an urgent need to be fulfilled. Here, a multifunctional coaxial energy
fiber has been developed toward energy harvesting, energy storage,
and energy utilization. Read more…
Vibration-based piezoelectric, electromagnetic, and hybrid energy harvesters for microsystems applications: Wireless sensor nodes (WSNs) and embedded microsystems have recently gained tremendous traction from researchers due to their vast sensing and monitoring applications in various fields including healthcare, academic, finance, environment, military, agriculture, retail, and consumer electronics. Demo based on ITEN 100µA.h micro-battery, RE01 platform from RENESAS and PV cell from Dracula Technologies: The demo was made with the RENESAS Evaluation Kit for the RE01-256KB and an organic PV cell from Dracula Technologies under approximately 2500lux (sunlight close to a window). You can see in the video that starting from a discharged micro-battery of less than 100uAh, only 40 seconds are required to get sufficient energy into the battery to allow the main application to run on the RE01 microcontroller.
After that, with the application running at 2MHz and 32MHz, the micro-battery gets charged all the time to achieve 30% of its capacitance in 4 minutes.
The micro-battery delivers the start-up current of the RE01 kit (~3.7mA) and the peak currents required by the 3 operating modes of the kit (running frequencies of 2MHz, 32MHz, and 64MHz). Watch the video here…
How to power remote controls with an OPV modules: Dracula Technologies has developed a demonstrator that allows you to replace batteries to operate a Samsung remote control. Watch the video here…
