Hello to all,
Big edition of The Harvesting Revolution for this month !
With rising fuel prices and a growing interest in ecology, this year is a sign of major opportunities for the energy autonomy field.
Why can't we achieve sustainable technology by continuing to use heavy metals?
What are the energy possibilities with the meteoric rise of connected objects with low energy consumption, especially sensors?

Biosensors for Point-of-Care Diagnostics 2022-2032: Technology, Opportunities, Players and Forecasts: The market for medical diagnostics is shifting from conventional, laboratory-based testing towards testing directly at the point of care. No time has this shift been so vital as now, during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this report, IDTechEx discusses the growth of point-of-care biosensors, the emerging trends within the industry and what opportunities new technologies will present. We forecast the trajectory that these will take the industry. Read moreā¦
Harmonic balance analysis of magnetically coupled two-degree-of-freedom bistable energy harvesters: Energy harvesting technology has been noteworthy as one of the alternative ways to power electronic devices instead of batteries. For example, in the Internet of Things networks, the maintenance cost of battery replacement is reduced by scavenging ambient energy with energy harvesting. In addition, energy harvesters are sustainable and eco-friendly, whereas batteries require recyclability due to its sustainability concerns. Furthermore, energy harvesting is the more promising alternative while replacing or recharging batteries are demanding, impractical, or hazardous.Ā Read moreā¦
Low-technology: why sustainability doesnāt have to depend on high-techĀ solutions: Itās a popular idea that the path to sustainability lies in high-tech solutions. By making everyday items like cars electric, and installing smart systems to monitor and reduce energy use, it seems weāll still be able to enjoy the comforts to which weāve become accustomed while doing our bit for the planet ā a state known as āgreen growthā. Sensors that scavenge their power are all the rage Perched as it is above a harbour on the Dingle peninsula, on Irelandās Atlantic coast, Mike Fitzgeraldās office has an unparalleled view of the domain he hopes to conquer: the open sea. As founder and boss of Net Feasa, a name derived from the Irish word for knowledge, Mr Fitzgeraldās ambition is to fit a sensor to each of the millions of shipping containers that are moving around the world. By using these to track the locations of, and conditions experienced by, those containers, and transmitting that information back to the people who need to know via satellite when a container is at sea and via a mobile-phone network when it is in port or on land, he believes firms will be able to maximise the efficiency of supply chains. We did a webinar on March 31, 2022 about creating a fully autonomous object using ambient light in 30 minutes which you can now watch on YouTube : https://hi.switchy.io/webyoutube
Through this section, I wanted to share with you some questions we had during this presentation:
What is its efficiency and Wp/m2 ?
Before telling our OPV efficiency, it depends on many factors (light source, level of luminosity), In indoor environment we have 13% to 20% efficiency.
Can we use outdoors?new module?
Our OPV is specially designed for indoor conditions, however depending on the environmental conditions we can adapt ink formulation that could fit your needs.
Are OPV already in mass production. Do you have examples to share yet?
We are working on the industrialization process of LAYERĀ®, Our pre-industrialization process allows us to produce more than tens of thousands of modules per week.
Can we buy already a couple of your modules ? and what would be the advantage to have a module structure rather than a single cell associated to a DC voltage booster ?
We have one type of OPV module for tests, available for sales on our website : https://dracula-technologies.com/demokit/
The voltage delivered by the OPV will depend of the number of cells connected in series, the output voltage range of the OPV will have an impact on the efficiency of the DC voltage booster. The more the DC has to boost the voltage to a desire level, the less efficient it will be.Voc and Isc are the maximum possible voltage and current output of a solar cell. These specifications are under no-load condition. So my question is here for the speakers and experts If a solar cell is connected to the PMIC then what is this situation is called, is it a load condition or no load?
Voc and Isc are defined as PV cell parameters atĀ no load and short circuit conditions which are mutually exclusive conditions. When an AEM PMICĀ is connected to the PV cell , it behaves as a load . So in normal harvesting conditions it is true that the voltage seen by AEM in operation is lower than Voc, and the ratio is perfectly defined as an MPPT ratio codition, set by the end user ( see table 8 page 12 of the data sheet ) . Ā However in order to track in real timeĀ the MPP of the PV cell , AEM will briefly disconnect the PV and measure the open circuit voltage .Ā Then the state machine will assess what is the MMP voltageĀ and will load the cell under that condition. If the Voc rises above the absolute max rating of the part then there is a good chance to damage the AEMĀ device.
What is the chemistry of the "micro storage element" used in the setup?Ā can we buy it somewhere?
The storage element we have shown ( SLB from Nichicon ) contain a very small amount of Lithium.Ā Certified 2017 : 2-IEC62133 and UL1642 . More information can be found hereĀ : https://www.nichicon.co.jp/english/products/slb/about/
