Integration of energy harvesting solutions.
The best ways to integrate energy harvesting solutions into our current processes.
Hello to all,
Despite the delay, I would like to wish you all a happy new year 2022.
In this edition, we would like to highlight the challenges related to the integration of energy harvesting solutions in connected objects. In particular through the management of the transmission and distribution of energy.
Of course, we will start as usual with the latest news about energy harvesting, ending with the next important dates not to be missed.
We wish you a good reading!

Energy Harvesting towards Self-Powered IoT Devices. The internet of things (IoT) manages a large infrastructure of web-enabled smart devices, small devices that use embedded systems, such as processors, sensors, and communication hardware to collect, send, and elaborate on data acquired from their environment. Thus, from a practical point of view, such devices are composed of power-efficient storage, scalable, and lightweight nodes needing power and batteries to operate.. Read more…
Energy harvesting and circuits. A major interest has been seen in energy harvesting and storage systems that convert atmospheric energy into electrical energy, especially in the military and industrial applications. The circuits and methodologies used for conversion of one form of energy into electrical energy are studied specifically for piezoelectric energy harvesting. Read more…
Industrial scale production of fibre batteries by a solution-extrusion method. Fibre batteries are of significant interest because they can be woven into flexible textiles to form compact, wearable and light-weight power solutions1,2. However, current methods adapted from planar batteries through layer-by-layer coating processes can only make fibre batteries with low production rates, which fail to meet the requirements for real applications2. Here, we present a new and general solution-extrusion method that can produce continuous fibre batteries in a single step at industrial scale. Read more…
Cartier uses e-peas energy harvesting PMIC for solar-powered watch. Luxury watch maker Cartier is using a custom energy harvesting power management IC (PMIC) from e-peas for its new Tank watch range enabling long-term energy autonomy. Cartier, part of Richemont, looked at various PMICs and chose e-peas technology because of the ability to start and efficiently harvest energy at low light levels – so that poor indoor light would be sufficient to power the watch. How to make a connected object autonomous with an energy harvesting solution?
We have created a demonstrator to explain how an energy harvesting solution can power a connected object for more than 10 years thanks to the surrounding energy.
We needed :
A photovoltaic module that you can get here
An analogical Voltmeter
Analogical ammeter
Conductive wires
The application powered by LAYER® consists of an Electronic hygrometer with LCD Display. When the voltage across the storage element is beyond 3V, the application starts.Â
A PMIC helps manage the power harvested by the Photovoltaic module LAYER® to the Load and the storage element (Here a 1F supercapacitor).
The storage element is charged by the OPV LAYER®, brighter light environment means a faster charging capacitor.
To the right, we got :
An analogic ampermeter measure the current delivered by LAYER®Â
And an analogic voltmeter measure the voltage across the storage element, when the voltage gets higher than 3V, the application starts.Â
